Barden puts Longford on top

LONGFORD turned on the style at Breffni Park to score a big Qualifier win over a youthful and inexperienced Cavan side.

After misfiring in their Leinster SFC defeat against Laois, Glen Ryan’s side transformed themselves into a potent attacking force, with Sean McCormack, Paul Barden and Brian Kavanagh shooting a combined total of 2-14.

Longford eased ahead with early scores from Brian Kavanagh and Sean McCormack, but a couple of neat Eugene Keating points from play had Cavan level by the seventh minute.

Cavan ended a 16-minute scoreless spell with a point from wing backs James McEnroe and Mark McKeever, and they drew level with a Seanie Johnston free on 26 minutes.

The home side hit the front for the first
