You will get square eyes if you watch too much telly, parents regularly warn their children. Now the BBC is preparing to give its younger viewers the power to challenge the conventional wisdom with a study into viewing habits.

This month presenters including Claudia Winkleman, Konnie Huq and Gaby Roslin launched the Square Eyes campaign, which seeks to gauge public opinion and assess parents’ views. The findings will inform a more detailed quantitative study this year.

In the campaign, the presenters set out the position in which many adults find themselves.
