Brendan Rodgers targets success after joining Reading

Brendan Rodgers, the new Reading manager, has pledged to regain the Berkshire club’s place in the Barclays Premier League. As the prodigal son, the former Reading youth player and academy manager, returned to the Madejski Stadium yesterday, he spoke of his aims of getting the team back into the top flight.

“I’ve had an association with Reading since I was 13 years of age and I’ve seen the growth over the last 20 years,” Rodgers, the former Watford manager, said. “It’s a Premier League club now, without a doubt, and I’m very proud to be here. I wasn’t crying to leave Watford but this is an opportunity to become the second manager in history to take Reading into the Premier League.
