There’s a new actor in the Spider-Man suit, and he’s young, British and truly edgy.
The Bafta-award-winning actor Andrew Garfield, 26, has taken over the superhero role from Tobey Maguire and will appear in the next, 3-D instalment of the franchise in about a year.
To date, the Spider-Man films have grossed more than $2.5 billion (£1.65 billion) and the new one is expected to focus on the character’s early years.
Marc Webb, the director, said of Garfield: “Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit,and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”
