Clue Challenge: WALLOW

This month we had 74 entrants for WALLOW, somewhat fewer than last time. One person sent two clues, only one of which is included here. Generally, when this happens, I take the first clue submitted, so I remind competitors to ensure they’ve finished working on their clue before sending it. One ‘late’ entry has been added to the analysis - the original having being lost in a technical black hole.

A broad range of treatments was used, but there was also a variety of issues which would prevent most of the clues from appearing in a daily or jumbo crossword in The Times. Perhaps the most surprising problem was a definition for “wallow” or “wow” that couldn’t be substituted for it in a sentence.
