Cocktail collection for anytime but bedtime

THERE is a merry gaggle of new designers at the heart of New York fashion. They are freshly elected by editors and buyers and bestowed with powers of sway and dazzle disproportionate to their years in the business.

Jeffrey Chow is one such, around whose name there is currently a persistent buzz. An alumna of Central St Martins, in London, he worked for Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger and Pucci before striking out on his own. Yesterday he produced his fourth collection and said that he catered “to the sophisticated woman who never sleeps”.

His collection was mostly lovely, with an archaic level of attention to clothes that could be described as neither for daytime nor night-time. But if you never sleep, what does time matter?
