Cristiano Ronaldo has promised to shut up the critics of his performances for Manchester United since he rejoined his former club in the summer.
He was responding before today’s game against Liverpool to suggestions that he is a defensive burden on United, who have won just two of their past six games. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side badly need to avoid defeat at Old Trafford to stay in touch with the leaders Chelsea, who are eight points clear of them.
“I know when the team needs my help defensively. But my role in the club is to win, help the team to win and to score goals — [the defensive side] is part of my job,” he said in an interview with Sky Sports.
