Cut out the banter and I’d pay any barber £50

David Cameron can’t do anything right lately: when he is silent, people accuse him of running away from the consequences of the referendum he unleashed; when he speaks, they are even more enraged. He deserves it all, of course, but I found myself feeling sorry for him this week after he admitted spending £50 or more on his haircuts.

The nation seems unanimous that this is excessive, with people on social media competing to boast how little they pay (“£9.50 at the barbers on Queens Road in Leicester”, “£6.50 in Bawtry!”, “I pay £3.50, from a man called Colin”, etc), but as someone who forks out £55 a month for a hairdressing appointment with Nicky, what they don’t understand is that the cost has little
