For Michael O’Hara, the managing director of IT company DataSolutions, mindset is everything. It came into play when he climbed Kilimanjaro in 2012, and it will exercise itself again this October as he sets out to complete the 230km Annapurna circuit in Nepal.
The Longford native has been building himself up for the climb with hour-long gym sessions every day and long mountain hikes at the weekend. The trek will reach an altitude of 5,400m above sea level, with one day spent climbing for seven hours straight. “When you’re up on the side of a mountain and you’re suffering a little bit, your worries about work evaporate,” O’Hara says. “It’s a very calming experience.”
