David Price retained his British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles with a second-round victory over Matt Skelton at the Aintree Equestrian Centre, Liverpool, last night.

The 29-year-old Liverpudlian followed up his 82-second demolition of Audley Harrison six weeks ago with another powerful performance, but it wasn’t as comfortable an evening as he might have hoped for.

Skelton started the first round in a hurry, pushing Price back to the ropes and landing with a left. The challenger was warned seconds later for use of the head as he bored into Price’s chest. The 45-year-old veteran backed off and was punished by the champion who landed a hard right cross.
