England could not have hoped for a better day. Starting on 266-3, the incumbent batsmen Paul Collingwood and Kevin Pietersen brought the total to almost 500. Collingwood, in particular, played almost faultlessly for his double century while Pietersen never looked troubled until he succumbed to a run out. Declaring on 551-6, Flintoff then removed Justin Langer with a brilliant delivery that bounced high just short of a length, and forced the Australian to edge to second slip. The series has taken a significant turn.
