The Dunblane massacre did not play a significant part in shaping the personality of a survivor who carried out a sex attack on an elderly woman in her own home, a court has been told.

Ryan Liddell was convicted by a jury last June of assaulting the 76-year-old woman with intent to rape her at her house in the Stirlingshire town, putting her life in danger.

Liddell was shot and injured during the Dunblane Primary School tragedy in 1996 when the gunman, Thomas Hamilton, opened fire on a primary one gym glass, killing 16 children and their teacher before turning the gun on himself.
