President Trump’s approval rating is higher than at any point during his time in office as Democratic opponents struggle to find a line of attack against him for the 2020 election.

Buoyed by a booming economy, his approval is at 44 per cent, according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll, two points higher than his previous peak early in his presidency.

With healthy monthly jobs reports and the stock market at a new high, Mr Trump is poised to mount a strong re-election campaign as the next White House race has begun in earnest.

A majority of voters polled said they found Mr Trump’s personal conduct “unpresidential” but for the first time in his presidency a slim majority — 51 per cent — approved
