Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst immediately embraced a return to his homeland as PSV Eindhoven were confirmed as the last hurdle to be cleared to reach the Champions League group stage.

Yet another highly-charged night awaits at Ibrox next Tuesday after Rangers fed off the power from their home support to beat Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise 3-0. That became the first time Rangers had ever overturned a 2-0 first-leg defeat after five earlier failed attempts.

James Tavernier’s penalty at the end of the first half gave Ibrox belief before Antonio Colak and Malik Tillman completely turned the tie around with second half goals. Rangers had control throughout and might have scored more although they were often careless in possession and gave the ball away cheaply.
