Eir television revenues are a real turn-off

Eir, the country’s biggest telecommunications company, saw its television revenues slump 10% to €37m last year after losing the rights to screen the BT Sport channels. The decline in TV income was attributed to a fall in revenues at its Eir Sport pay TV channel.

The group, which reported earnings of €600m for the year ending June 2020, is struggling to make an impact in the TV market. It has boosted its pitch with one-year free subscription to Amazon Prime Video and to Apple TV, which produced The Morning Show with Jennifer Aniston and Steve Carrell.

Eir has only 78,000 TV subscribers, however, representing an overall TV market share of 5%, or 8% of the pay TV market.
