My meeting with Jeffrey Lichtman, New York’s lawyer du jour thanks to his defence of the diminutive drug lord El Chapo, was going swimmingly until he threw me out.

He objected to me asking about his alleged affair with another client, a glamorous but crooked restaurateur dubbed the “vegan Bernie Madoff”.
