England will be without their captain Leah Williamson and first-choice striker Alessia Russo for their clash with the United States, the world champions, at Wembley on Friday.
Williamson, who led the Lionesses to European Championship victory in the summer, was injured in training and seen on Tuesday using crutches and wearing a protective boot. The 25-year-old will also miss the game against Czech Republic next week.
Russo, the 23-year-old who cemented her place as England’s No 1 striker after the retirement of Ellen White and her impressive displays from the bench during the Euros, missed Manchester United’s Continental Cup match on Sunday with a “small injury” and will remain at her club to continue her rehabilitation.
