Sir, Bill Cash, MP, writes to warn against the EU regulating financial services in the UK, acknowledging that the UK Government has failed to do the job (letter, July 10). The cynic might wonder what else Mr Cash has to hide in seeking to prevent the EU doing what the UK should be doing.
Millions of us have had to endure, for far too long, UK financial institutions showing scant respect for our rights. We have had, to recall a few: the mis-selling of endowment mortgages, the Equitable life pensions’ swindle, grossly unfair, disproportionate (and probably illegal) banking charges, the beggaring of UK pension funds and the near bankruptcy of the entire financial system with the taxpayer now footing the bill. That list of
