FA will investigate Cole fire

The Football Association (FA) will investigate Ashley Cole’s claims that Graham Poll, the referee in charge of Chelsea’s match at Tottenham on Sunday, told Jose Mourinho’s men “they needed to be taught a lesson.”

Poll is also accused of saying Chelsea’s players were “out of order” during the stormy game which saw John Terry, the visiting captain, sent off before Spurs won 2-1.

But Keith Hackett, the head of the Professional Game Match Officials Board, came to Poll’s defence, claiming Cole should not have spoken to the media about it.

“I think that’s a disappointing comment,” Hackett said. “If players are unhappy with comments made by referees then they can channel that through the club and the officials at the club.
