On the market: but there is no guide price for Brighton Pier

One of Britain’s most famous seaside attractions, Brighton Pier, is on the market for the first time since since 1984, its owner, Noble Group, has announced.

The Grade II* listed landmark, completed in 1901, is also known as the Palace Pier.

Noble has invested £35 million in it, and David Biesterfield, the group’s development director, said: “Brighton Pier is unique, a dynamic, modern business based on and sustaining our heritage.”

The pier has eighteen themed attractions and rides, two amusement arcades, and retail and entertainment outlets. Bill Randall, the leader of Brighton & Hove City Council, said that many of the city’s 8.5 million visitors went to the pier.

Visitors have ranged from Sir Winston Churchill to Arctic Monkeys, and the pier is the scene
