Former NoW reporter arrested over ‘intimidation of witness’

Neville Thurlbeck, the former chief reporter of the News of the World, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of intimidating a witness.

The arrest is understood to relate to a blog post in which Mr Thurlbeck, 50, included the name of the street where the witness lives.

Mr Thurlbeck, one of the first suspects questioned over hacking, was released on bail last night until next month. His blog post included the street name, but not the number, of the witness’s home in London. He later removed that detail, which is publicly available on the electoral roll, saying he accepted that it was distressing to the witness’s family and apologised.
