Frank Lampard not only choice for Chelsea, says Petr Cech as he is excused from Derby training for talks

Petr Cech, the former Chelsea goalkeeper who has been appointed the club’s technical and performance adviser, has said that Frank Lampard is not the only candidate being considered to be their next manager.

The Derby County manager is the favourite to succeed Maurizio Sarri, who joined Juventus last month, but Cech said that he had given his opinion about a number of candidates to Marina Granovskaia, the Chelsea director, and Roman Abramovich, the owner.

Chelsea were given permission to talk to Lampard last week and have offered him a three-year contract thought to be worth about £4 million a year. Chelsea would also need to agree to pay compensation to Derby of about £4 million. The west London club want a new manager in place
