Chris Gayle may say he has lost enthusiasm for Test cricket but he remains one of the most sparkling of batsmen in Twenty20, as he showed with an unbeaten innings of 88 off 56 balls against Ireland at the Brit Oval.

Ireland lost wickets frequently as they compiled 130 for seven. Gayle started the chase conservatively for him, with his first six runs taking eight balls, but doubled his tally by pulling a ball from Boyd Rankin for the first of seven sixes. The match ended after 16 overs when Gayle hit John Mooney’s only over for 19.
