Gliders surf Australia’s Morning Glory clouds

One of the weather wonders of the world has begun in northern Australia. The Morning Glory is a magnificent cloud that sweeps over the Gulf of Carpentaria like a roll of carpet, stretching up to some 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) across the entire horizon.

Each spring these dark clouds surge across the skies in the early morning during calm weather. In the most spectacular displays, a Glory can appear in a double roll, and several rolls can sweep by in quick succession.
