Government stalls on access to diaries

THE Liberal Democrats claimed yesterday that the Government was refusing to publish details of Alan Milburn’s ministerial diaries to avoid political embarrassment before the general election.

As all three main parties were again accused of using the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act as a political football, the Lib Dems said that the Government was now blocking information it had released in the past.

A spokesman for the Lib Dems also claimed that Labour MPs had put in requests under the FoI Act about the poll tax and rail privatisation to embarrass the Tory party.
