Holy F***: LP

One suspects that this duo from Toronto christened themselves Holy F*** not to shock, but to try to articulate the exclamatory nature of their sound. Essentially, they make dance music that eschews modern technology, favouring real drums and ancient, crotchety synths over computers.

The results are chaotic, grungy and very hip – a novel indie-dance amalgam that should appeal to Klaxons fans, for a start. Others should be interested, too, since LP resembles both the sound pioneered by Neu! in the 1970s and a belligerent, sweaty rock band trying to copy the Chemical Brothers. Safari, meanwhile, sounds like a gang of hardcore punks dismantling a vintage arcade game. Oddly bracing, all told.
