Teenager Ethan Hayter became the shock European Champion in the men’s omnium last night.
The 19-year-old British rider said the win was “unbelievable,” adding: “it was so good to do it in front of a home crowd.”
It is his second medal of the championships after he took bronze with the men’s team pursuit on Friday. Hayter joked that, within the British cycling team: “getting a spot is probably one of the hardest things to do, rather than winning the medal.” He added: “I thought, coming into it, I wouldn’t make the team pursuit team yesterday, even though I was world champion.”
The omnium comprises four disciplines, the 10km scratch race, the tempo race, the elimination and the finale, the points race. They are all
