How to make your spring bulbs last longer

Whether you grow bulbs indoors or outside, these tips will help them to thrive this year and next, says Joe Swift

Spring bulbs are an extremely versatile way of adding shots of colour throughout the season, with many bringing the bonus of a delicious scent. They can be planted in borders, containers, window boxes or, depending on the bulb and garden style, naturalised in drifts into larger grass areas. The opportunities don’t stop at the back or front door either, as we can cheat the seasons and force them into an early flowering treat inside. Bulbs are excellent value, often working out far cheaper than a bunch of flowers yet far more exciting as you’ll get the full sense of gardening expectation watching them grow and bloom.
