We all know that feeling of excitement when we bring a beautiful, exotic, glossy-leaved plant home and can’t wait to watch it grow. But sadly, despite our best intentions, we also know that feeling when it starts looking sad and droopy.

Yellow, brown, limp or crispy leaves can be part of the normal life cycle of a plant — or a cry for help. However, we often misread these signs or don’t take the time to understand them. The good news is, the solution to the most common issues is rarely complicated and often the smallest adjustment can make the biggest change.

Overwatering is a term you may be familiar with, but it’s not the volume of water alone that may be causing the leaves
