IT WAS foggy in patches and distinctly dull in between. "A typical lovely winter's day in Stoke," opined Tony Pulis, the Stoke manager, though his Hull counterpart, Phil Brown, fumed: "We've been robbed."

A controversial penalty awarded for a foul on Stoke's Ricardo Fuller was the source of Brown's ire, though his goal-keeper, Boaz Myhill, appeared to catch Fuller's trailing leg. "A very theatrical dive," said Brown.

"We're an honest group and we don't encourage players to dive," Pulis countered. If there was consensus on anything, it was the quality of the game. "It wasn't spectacular," Brown admitted.
