Stefan Ormenisan, co-founder of Mind the Gap, an international home decor label, does not have a creative off switch. He was renting his two-storey home in Targu Mures, in Romania’s Transylvania region, from his friend when he revealed his ambitions to improve the 1950s building. “As a designer, when I went in I said, ‘The house is nice but it needs to be fully refurbished.’ I told my friend how much I wanted to change it and he said, ‘Look, you’d better buy it then.’ In the end I just kept the façade — and some of those were changed to mostly windows.”
