The INM-commissioned internal review of the protected disclosure from Robert Pitt and Ryan Preston said it was unable to make a decision on the central complaint about Newstalk because of the “stark” difference in evidence between parties.
Ivan Murphy, managing director of Davy Corporate Finance, stood over its valuation of Newstalk. He stated it was “entirely normal” that there are “robust discussions” between chairmen and chief executives about acquisitions. He never saw the deal “getting past first base”.
Pitt later accused Murphy of “changing” his story. He claimed Murphy had been critical of Leslie Buckley’s behaviour in the Newstalk process, and had told him he would stand over Davy’s report “even if he got a call from somebody on his jet”.
