Underneath Waterloo station there exists a theatre, and a rough guess puts it somewhere below platform one. A couple of weeks ago I had never heard of it, although plays and musicals have been regularly presented there for 50 years and more. My ignorance must be shared by almost everyone walking along this stretch of Waterloo Road between the station and the Old Vic, because the theatre is tucked 50 yards along a private road and has hitherto been the preserve of amateur productions by railway staff.
