STRANGE: Brown is entitled to his opinions, however spiteful. His review, however, contained a number of mistakes. In a snide swipe at Bridge of Allan’s restaurants he says there “are three with the word Golden in their names (the Golden Chip, the Golden Bird and the Golden Crown)”. These are in fact in Stirling. Clive Ramsay’s restaurant, the ostensible justification for this piece, is not “right on the outskirts” but in the town centre. And having opened in 2003, it hardly counts as “recently unveiled”.

Brown says: “You sense they don’t like strangers much.” On what evidence? Bridge of Allan hosts a well-integrated community of overseas students and has a broad social mix of residents. But then, as he
