Two of Great Britain’s gold medal winners from the last Olympics will lead out Team GB today at the first opening ceremony to allow male and female flagbearers for each national team.

Mohamed Sbihi, a rower who won gold in Rio five years ago in the men’s coxless four, and Hannah Mills, a sailor who will be defending her women’s 470 title, have been chosen for the honour at the opening of the Games in Tokyo.

Sbihi, 33, will become the first British Muslim flagbearer, which he said he hoped would inspire Muslim children.
