Mobile food clubs restore a sense of community

The Times

Feeding Britain is a charity that does what it says on the tin. It runs and develops food clubs that make low-cost but good products more affordable and accessible for people on low incomes.

The idea is to try to help people before they need food banks or to provide a stepping stone away from dependence on them. The food club preserves people’s dignity and freedom — to choose from a selection of fresh, chilled, frozen, long-life and household goods, and to pay a manageable fee for them, freeing enough of the household budget to keep on top of other essential costs and avoid becoming destitute.

Those two priorities, affordability and accessibility, have seen a growing proportion of food clubs operating as mobile shops.
