Muchall not able to turn slice of luck into victory

IF GORDON MUCHALL had gone on to win this game for Durham, Nottinghamshire would have been left cursing more than just their luck. The Outlaws had looked in danger of overheating after they had been incensed by Muchall’s failure to walk for a slip catch claimed by Mark Ealham. In the end, once Muchall had been dismissed for an entertaining 38, Nottinghamshire regained their composure to record a comfortable first victory in the north division.

Muchall had made only two when he refused to take Ealham’s word that he had held a low chance off Charlie Shreck. The umpires consulted and let Muchall continue.

He then struck the next ball he
