Nacho Novo fires Rangers into final

Holders sweep past Falkirk in the Co-operative Insurance Cup with three goals at a half-empty and echoing Hampden Park

Nacho Novo may have been confined to the supporting cast at Rangers this season but he proved to be the leading man in every sense last night as he scored twice — and supplied Kris Boyd with a goal — as the holders swept Falkirk aside 3-0 to reach the Co-operative Insurance Cup final.

The Spaniard earned a rave review from Walter Smith for his performance in front of a crowd of just 24,507 at Hampden Park as Rangers maintained their pursuit of a trophy they have won on 25 occasions, more than any other club. “Sometime Nacho gets frustrated when he does not get the opportunity to play, which is understandable, but he never lets you down,” the manager said.
