Elliot Anderson has completed a £35million move from Newcastle United to Nottingham Forest.

The 21-year-old is passed a medical at the City Ground after the two clubs agreed a fee for the Geordie midfielder late on Saturday night.

Newcastle are reluctant sellers, with Eddie Howe a big fan of the player, but the club have been forced to offload Anderson and the 19-year-old winger Yankuba Minteh to Brighton & Hove Albion for £32million in order to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and avoid a points deduction for the new season.

Newcastle’s financial year, like the majority of Premier League clubs, runs to June 30 and any sales had to be rushed through this weekend in order to lessen club losses.
