The parents of a woman killed by a nerve agent that was intended for the former Russian spy Sergei Skripal have criticised the government for allowing him to settle in Salisbury before the attack.

Stan and Caroline Sturgess spoke publicly for the first time to express their anger over their daughter’s death. They also fear that more people could still fall victim to the novichok agent.

Mr Skripal, 67, and his daughter Yulia, 33, collapsed in Salisbury last March after being poisoned with novichok at his home. Detective Sergeant Nick Bailey of Wiltshire police was also left critically ill when he came into contact with the poison in a search of their home. The incident led to a major decontamination operation in the city.
