Victims of a security guard accused of shooting and wounding three colleagues and a policeman are trying to stop him ending his life through assisted suicide before he can stand trial.

Marin Eugen Sabau, 46, has been granted permission for euthanasia on the basis that he lost the use of his legs when he was shot by police pursuers.

“We have a problem,” Mireia Ruiz, a lawyer for one of the injured workers, told El País. “We don’t know if we have enough time. We are not denying his right to euthanasia but want the exercising of that right to be postponed until after the trial.”
