Pensioner hailed a heroine of Arizona shootings

A woman in her sixties has been hailed a heroine for her role in disarming the Arizona gunman who killed six and wounded 13 in a shooting rampage.

Patricia Maisch, 61, saw that Jared Lee Loughner was reaching in his trouser pocket for a second ammunition clip and managed to grab it when it dropped to the pavement.

She helped to hold Loughner down after he had been tackled to the ground, and staunched the head wound of another of the people who restrained the 22-year-old gunman.

“She might have saved many, many lives,” said Sheriff Clarence Dupnik.
