Police are mystified by priest’s murder

POLICE are baffled as to the motive for the murder of one of Britain’s most important Hindu leaders, who was found stabbed to death in a house in Leicester. Police sources said last night that they had no reason to believe the murder was racially motivated.

Harish Purohit, 42, president of the Hindu Federation, was stabbed more than ten times in a frenzied attack. The police said that his killer may have tried to start a fire in the house to hide evidence of the murder.

The body was discovered on Friday morning by Mr Purohit’s brother, Jai, after neighbours smelt smoke coming from the house.
