What was the purpose of the Bali summit?
Policy-makers from more than 180 countries drew up an agenda for negotiations aimed at reducing the manmade greenhouse gas emissions, particularly carbon dioxide, that are held to be the driving forces behind climate change. That climate change is taking place and that it is largely man’s own fault is broadly agreed. Some groups dispute this, but there is growing acceptance that global warming is a problem.
Has Bali achieved anything?
Agreements were reached on several issues, but the chief aim of the summit was to agree a timetable in which world leaders would sign up to a successor to the Kyoto Protocol. This so-called “road map” is intended to offer a route towards international agreement on what
