Rangers have agreed a four-year deal with Fashion Sakala, the highly-rated Zambian striker who will leave the Belgian side KV Oostende at the end of the season, subject to international clearance and a work permit being received. The 24-year-old becomes Steven Gerrard’s first signing of the summer and described the move to the Scottish champions as a “dream come true”.

Sakala’s arrival comes as Gerrard revealed that the club have opened talks with Jermain Defoe over a new contract. The 38-year-old’s current deal expires in the summer and Gerrard said that they will respect the veteran’s wishes if he wants to instead begin another chapter in his career.
