Robotic craft finds ‘Nemo’ and new species of fish

CELEBES SEA Dozens of mysterious marine creatures, many thought to be new to science, were discovered during an expedition to one of the world’s most diverse ecosystems.

Among the creatures found in the Celebes Sea, south of the Philippines, was an orange boxfish less than half an inch long - described by researchers as like the eponymous hero of the film Finding Nemo - and species of jellyfish and squid.

Most of the discoveries were made in an ocean basin that could have been isolated from other ecosystems for millions of years. Robotic craft dived more than 9,000ft (2,700m) in the sea, which can be as deep as 16,500ft. An estimated 100 specimens were collected and work is to start on establishing those that were
