The Everton manager, Sean Dyche, wants his midfielder Amadou Onana to become more versatile and believes that pinning him down to a set position would have a negative impact on his career.

Onana, 21, who has had a steady first season since a £34 million move from Lille last summer, played as a deep-lying midfielder for Belgium last week but can be pushed into more advanced positions for Everton, and Dyche is keen for that process to continue.

“It is good for his development,” Dyche said. “I have spoken to him about playing different roles in midfield. At Lille he played in a two. He’s played deep lying and now the No 8 for us.
