Even as winter and recession loom, people are planning where to go on holiday next year and after two decades Croatia again appears to be a popular choice. The country gained its independence in 1998 after the Yugoslav civil war shattered the region; visitors, many of them second-home owners, have slowly returned. It is easy to see why. Croatia has one of the longest and prettiest coastlines in Europe, delicious seafood and similar temperatures and scenery to Italy.
