Self charming the light and dark sides of Chet Baker

What was it about Chet Baker - trumpeter, junkie, the James Dean of jazz - that made all who met him, including Bruce Weber, love him?

All my films come from finding someone I want to take a photograph of and then diving into an empty swimming pool. My first record was a copy of Chet Baker Sings and Plays. My jazz records went with me from home to boarding school, to film school in New York. When I moved to New York I used them as posters, they were so beautiful. That’s how I found out about the photographer Bill Caxton; he shot all those iconic pictures of Chet. Chet was beautiful, the James Dean of jazz.
