Team GB added a gold, a silver and three bronzes to its medal tally today in their best start to a modern Olympic Games.
A first women’s team gymnastics medal since 1928 was among the standout performances at Tokyo 2020, with Alice Kinsella, Amelie Morgan and the twins Jennifer and Jessica Gadirova taking bronze in the final.
The Britons scored 164.096, with the Russian Olympic Committee taking gold and the United States settling for silver for the first time since 2008.
Earlier Team GB sealed its best Olympic swimming result since 1908 when Tom Dean and Duncan Scott won gold and silver respectively in the men’s 200m freestyle.
